Beauty & Utility
Pershore Library
19 March - 16 April 2022
No booking is required.
During 2020 Meadow Arts commissioned four artists to create a series of projects that engaged with the community, reflected the seasons and captured the changing environmental conditions and biodiversity of Avon Meadows Community Wetlands in Pershore. Their work will be showcased at Pershore Library over Spring 2022.
The artworks are intended to be love letters to the site. They are responses to wider notions of beauty and utility associated with the ancient use of floodplain meadows in managing flood water, providing sustainable land management and community benefit.
Artists: Andrew Howe, Emma Plover, Kate Raggett, Melanie Woodhead
Listen to Stories of the River, a series of sonic postcards, developed by artist Emma Plover here. Recorded over digital and physical site visits to Avon Meadows, they consider the aura and area of the meadows, documenting the species and natural features, which inhabit and form part of the ecosystem.
Beauty & Utility was a partnership with the Floodplain Meadows Partnership hosted by the Open University School of Environment, Earth and Ecosystem Sciences, Friends of Avon Meadows and Wychavon District Council.
