Make your own contraption with David Bethell

A free workshop for families

Thursday 17th August, 10am – 12pm

Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery

Use your imagination to build your own ‘contraption’ in our free family workshop.

Join artist David Bethell to make your own ‘contraption’ inspired by the artist’s own work, Contraption: After Telford and Brown, on display in the balcony gallery now as part of Meadow Arts’ Synthetic Landscapes exhibition.

David has been exploring the landscape of Shropshire and its historic past and has created an artwork that combines a video and wooden sculptures. He looked at boats, carriages, ploughs, harrows and bridges to make a machine he calls a ‘contraption’. Young people and their parents/carers are invited to enjoy the Synthetic Landscapes exhibition and take part in an art trail, gaining a quick insight into the exhibition, before getting busy and creating your very own 'contraptions' under the expert guidance of the commissioned artist David himself.

Places limited, booking required. Free workshop, standard museum admission applies.

Ring 01743 258881 museumeducation@shropshire.gov.uk for information and to book.

Suitable for the whole family from 5+

Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery are celebrating the beautiful landscapes of Shropshire this summer. Art exhibition Synthetic Landscapes, in partnership with Meadow Arts, showcases a new piece of work by artist David Bethell in response to the landscape of Shropshire and the museum’s own historic collection of art and objects. The exhibition offers an opportunity to see some of the museum’s collection of landscape paintings including a watercolour of the English Bridge, Shrewsbury by J.M.W. Turner. More artworks by international artists are on show at Weston Park, as part of the same exhibition.
