Over and Over, Again and Again [2004] by artist Mariele Neudecker is a rocky landscape, set within three water filled glass tanks, representing fore-, mid- and back-ground in a painting by Karl Friedrich Schinkel [The Gate in the Rocks, 1818].

Mariele Neudecker

Mariele Neudecker lives and works in Bristol, UK and uses a broad range of media including sculpture, film, photography as well as sound. Her works have been exhibited widely internationally both in group- and solo-exhibitions. Her practice investigates the formation and historical dissemination of cultural constructs around the natural world and notion of a Contemporary Sublime. Neudecker often uses technology's virtual capabilities in order to re-produce a heightened experience of nature and landscape, thus addressing the subjective and mediated condition of any first hand encounter.

Neudecker has exhibited widely nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the IKON Gallery, Birmingham, Tate St Ives, Tate Britain, London, the Zeppelin Museum, Friedrichshafen, as well as in Biennales in Japan, Australia and Singapore.

She is represented by Galerie Barbara Thumm, Berlin, holds a Professorial position at Bath Spa University and has recently become a long-term fellow for CERN's Visiting Artists Program.

Neudecker exhibited in Tempest, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery Hobart Tasmania, and amongst other projects, worked as lead artist towards The Sea, at the Ferens Art Gallery and The Hull Maritime Museum as part of Hull, City of Culture 2017, curated by Invisible Dust, London.
