Jeremy Deller
Jeremy Deller is an English conceptual artist. Deller's eclectic work engages on a broad level with popular and traditional culture: his forays into folk art are deliberately low-brow, anti-urban and characterised by an entertaining lightness of touch. Deller describes himself as a 'self-taught conceptual artist', which frees him to occupy various roles as an artist: curator, social entrepreneur, producer and director of projects including films, processions, historical re-enactments and exhibitions. Much of his work is collaborative and participatory, and many of his free-ranging, open-ended projects are explorations of British culture and experiences.
He won the Turner Prize in 2004 and in 2013 he represented Britain at the Venice Biennale. He has had solo exhibitions at Hayward Gallery, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; New Museum, New York and Barbican Art Gallery, London.
